Assalamu Alaikum. If you want to make YouTube thumbnails, design social media banners, or do professional photo editing, then Photoshop is the first choice for you. In today's first episode, we will learn about the basic structure of Photoshop and its interface.

Chapter 1: What is Photoshop and why is it different?

Photoshop is a raster or pixel-based software. When you zoom in on an image, the little rectangular boxes you see are pixels. Photoshop can control each of these pixels individually.

Why learn Photoshop?

  1. Retouching : Removing blemishes or correcting skin tone.
  2. Background Remove: Instantly change the background of any photo.
  3. Color grading: Bringing cinematic color to images like movies.
  4. Digital painting: Drawing on a computer using a brush tool.

Chapter 2: Introduction to the interface and workspace

When you open Photoshop, you can customize the window that appears in front of you according to your needs.

1. Menu Bar: File, Edit, Image, etc. options at the top.

2. Toolbar: All the editing tools on the left side.

3. Option Bar: When you select any tool, its settings can be seen here.

4. Layers Panel: The most important part on the right side, where every step of your work is stored.

Chapter 3: What are Layers and why are they the lifeblood of Photoshop?

The biggest rule when working in Photoshop is to never work directly on the original image. Always work on a new layer.

  • Advantage : Suppose you write a text on an image. If it is on a separate layer, you can move or delete it whenever you want. But if you do it on top of the original image, the entire image will be ruined.

Layer-based work is the secret to professional editing.

Chapter 4: 4 Essential Selection Tools

Before doing anything in Photoshop, you need to select the area first. To get started, these 4 tools will be most useful:

1. Move Tool (V): Move any object or layer from one place to another.

2. Marquee Tool (M): Select a rectangular or circular area.

3. Lasso Tool (L): Create selections by freehand or drawing as you wish.

4. Quick Selection Tool (W): Smartly select a specific part (such as clothes or sky).

Chapter 5: Rules for opening and saving new files

1. New File: Go to File > New and set the image size (Pixels) and resolution (always keep it 300).

2. Open: Use File > Open to bring in an image from your PC.

3. Save: When you're done, go to File > Save As and save in PSD format (so you can edit it later). Or save in JPG or PNG format to get it as an image.

The journey of Photoshop has just begun. In this series, we will learn step-by-step how to change the background of a photo, retouch faces, and do advanced manipulation. On the first day, your task is to open Photoshop and click on the various tools with your mouse to see what they do.
